Asthma Relief Breathing Exercise

Asthma Relief Breathing Exercise (How-To)
- Practice Instructions
- Sit comfortably. Breathe nasally.
- Breathe normally and lightly for 30 seconds.
- After a gentle exhale, hold your breath (don’t inhale first).
- Hold for 15 seconds or until your first urge to breathe — whichever comes first.
- Resume light nasal breathing during the rest interval — avoid heavy breathing.
- Decrease the rest duration as shown in the table above.
Benefits for Asthma Patients
- Gently trains the body to tolerate rising CO₂, reducing breathlessness.
- Helps shift breathing from mouth to light nasal breathing.
- Reduces airway inflammation and bronchospasm triggers associated with CO₂ sensitivity.
- Encourages control during physical exertion or emotional stress.
Important Safety Notes
- Never push into discomfort, coughing, wheezing, or gasping.
- If symptoms worsen, stop immediately and resume calm breathing or use your prescribed medication.
- Do not use during or immediately after an asthma attack.
- Always practice seated and supervised if you’re new.
